"Croach doesn't even bother with any pretense of being friendly towards his students. Why then, is he teaching at an elementary school? There's more to him than meets the eye..."
"A tall, lanky, bad-tempered creature with a fondness for his trusty shovel."
- Hollow Fields School Files, Vol. 1[1]
Mr. Croach, full name Archibald Croach Jr. and sometimes called Archie,[2] is a teacher at Hollow Fields, and one of the Engineers. He teaches Grave Robbing, Live Taxidermy, and Embalming.[1] He is a gifted scientist and specializes in "anything including stitching skin, preserving flesh, and creating unlife, in the form of golems or zombies."[1]
Appearance[]
Croach has short and messy dark purple hair that connects with thick sideburns into a pointed beard. He wears a hooded cloak with stitches and arrow designs. He often carries a shovel, which he uses in his Fundamentals of Grave Robbing class.[3] Like all of the Engineers, his eyes are blank circles that can move to indicate expressions, and he has two stitches coming down the center of his forehead. He usually is depicted scowling.
Personality[]
He is strict with students as well as short-tempered. He cannot stand children,[2] and does not seem to like other people in general. He does not like physical contact with other people, even to the point of insisting that visitors in his lab do not even touch the equipment.[2]
History[]
Before he joined Miss Weaver, he worked at Croach & Croach Jr. Steam-Driven Solutions whose tagline is "For A Brighter Future"[2] where he used his fathers resources for his research. When Weaver meets with him to invite him in on her plan for Hollow Fields, he is researching steam-powered life support and is frustrated at being barred from human test subjects, instead relying on animal organs.[2] Weaver and Croach seem to have known each other for some time before she invited him to Hollow Fields, or at least they knew of each other because of running in similar social circles.
